Sarah’s Class: Term 1 Week 3

Hello everybody,

I hope you’ve had a nice weekend. It was really lovely to see the small contingent of parents from our class attend Parent Teacher night last Thursday. Thankyou, to those who were able to make it. I shared our timetable for the term, talked a bit about our Pips, our Spelling and Maths program and all things we are currently learning. A lot of this information will roll out in the newsletter, so please don’t worry that you missed out on important ‘stuff’.

It has been so great to have Kim (music teacher) return this term and already the children are enjoying her lessons. Their focus this week was on drumming and beat patterns. I was away unwell on Tuesday and Wednesday but Sarah D and Pepper did some terrific lessons on Persuasive arguments and reading comprehension. Focusing on our link to “What Matters” and Pips on famous people we looked specifically at Jane Goodall. Reading a passage about her life and legacy the children answered comprehension questions and then wrote a paragraph about her, in their own words.

Some of the arguments the children recorded for their persuasive arguments were on “why we should have longer recess” and “why there should be more rainbows” – I was convinced with the latter. Our Maths focus this week was on Symmetry and Area in Measurement and Subtraction and Place Value in Numbers.

Next week, we will go swimming again on Tuesday, 17th in the morning, and I’d LOVE a volunteer to come join us. Please let me know if that’s something you could help out with. Thanks Anj (Rome’s mum) for coming last week.
