Sarah’s Class Term 1 Week 2

Well Hellooooooooooo!!

Trusting you’ve all had a good week and are well and truly back into the swing of school routine.

We’ve had a full and busy week introducing new text and work books, topics and activities. We started our Spelling program at the beginning of the week and completed the first unit focusing on the sound ‘b’. A whole school topic on “What Matters” was introduced and we’ve had some great discussions on things that matter to us, as individuals, and humans. We looked at what a persuasive argument is and talked about real world topics that could be argued about and need the skill of persuasion.

For our Maths we are using 2 different books: One will be our workbook for practice on the topic we are focusing on in the week and the other, a Mentals book will be used for additional practice and consolidation. Throughout this term our focus will be on Numbers and Measurement. More specifically, we looked into Place Value into the tens of thousands and measuring in cm.

In PE this week we played some ball games and talked about ‘teamwork’ and the importance of communication with our team mates. We have also been starting each day with some quick burst exercises and meditation. As mentioned last week, the group is small but the children are really coming together, as a whole.

The children started their projects this week but choices are limited under the umbrella topic of famous people who have done something that matters! All children have been paired with a peer to work on their choice of famous people. People chosen include: Abraham Lincoln, Steve Irwin, Ed Sheeran, Frida Kahlo, Dr Seuss and Marie Curie.

Next week, we have our first visit to Lane Cove Library on Monday afternoon and we will be going swimming on Tuesday morning with Meg’s group.

That’s it for our first full week together. I am very much looking forward to seeing as many of you as possible at our Parent Teacher night next Thursday at 6:00 PM.

Love, Sarah M
