Sarah’s Class: Term 1 Week 10

Dear Parents,
Not really very much to add this week: we’ve had a really great and busy term which included lots of diversity. I am so proud of the children and their ability in all areas but especially, their work on “What Matters” and projects.

This week, we completed some reflections of our projects and the “What Matters’ unit of work, finishing up with the festival. How good was that! Feedback from the children’s learning experiences throughout the term were extremely positive. Although the festival seemed to be the highlight there were a lot of great responses from the group expressing how much they enjoyed learning about interesting people and the interesting things they have done in their lives. They also said they loved writing their own stories about their life and creating art works representing what matters to them. Some children referenced how much they enjoyed having the opportunity to share the things that matter to them like taking care of people and the environment. Below is a reflection we did as a whole group.

Some of the things I learnt from the ‘What Matters’ unit of work this term are that nobody is perfect and some people are different and that not all people have to be the same. Not all people in the world help with pollution and looking after trees so that’s why we have to. I learnt that people can do amazing things that change the world.

What I really enjoyed most was being able to work with the whole class and being able to create an artwork that I care about. I also enjoyed learning about stuff that other people did to help the world and writing a story about myself.

Something I wished we’d done more of would have been doing more artworks and getting to learn about more people and have more time to finish our artwork. I would have liked to have some PE incorporated into the unit of work.

Some things I would like to know more about are famous people, how to stop pollution and deforestation and world hunger and how to help the world. I would also like to learn about recycling, reducing and reusing around the world. I really enjoyed this unit of work because it was fun and interesting and I learnt a lot.
