Sarah’s Class News Week 4 Term 3
Hi Everyone, I hope you’ve had a nice weekend.
Our main focus this week was on Science. After our DJ session with Nate on Monday we started the first step of looking at the Chemical reaction between vinegar and an uncooked egg. We call this the Naked Egg experiment. A few children stated they had already seen what happens, so we talked a little bit about what we could be expecting. We left the experiement simmering for the week and recorded the changes we saw each day. We learnt what the reaction was and how the egg loses it shell and is able to bounce when removed from the glass jar of vinegar.
On Tuesday, we listened and watched 2 webinars. The first was on poetry and writing something about nature. Via Zoom we listened to a young poet talk about the structure of a poem and how they can be long or short. The poet had us think about something in nature and write describing words and action words, as a place to start the process. We also listened to an instructional Zoom called Foldable Flight and learnt how to fold a dart plane and glider with paper. There was lots of testing in the playground and planes getting lost on roofs. In the afternoon we had a great game of Capture the Flag where everybody joined in and were supportive team players.
On Wednesday, James had the group look at the properties of solids, liquids and gases and they did some more mapping and co-ordinates in Maths. Thursday morning I had a big discussion with the children regarding behaviour, agreements, rules and expectations. We watched some more videos on paper plane folding and the children did a measuring task to see how far their Jet Fighter plane flew across the basketball court.
Next week is Book week, so we will immerse ourselves in books and reading and writing and hopefully, will be thinking like an author and illustrator.
That’s it for this week.
Love, Sarah
