Preschool Week 6 Term 4
Hello everyone,
What a wonderful week we have had in preschool. Our annual School Concert was a true celebration of the children, their voices, and the meaningful learning that has unfolded across the term. The children did themselves proud on stage with the same enthusiasm, courage, and creativity we have seen throughout the rehearsal process. Their performance was not just about the final moment under the lights, it was about everything they contributed, created, and negotiated in the lead up.
From the very beginning, the concert was co-constructed with the children. They explored ideas, shared suggestions, voted on what we would perform, and considered how we could represent ourselves as a preschool community. Together they developed the moves and actions, refining them until everyone felt comfortable and proud. This sense of belonging to something bigger than just themselves or our preschool group has been evident in every rehearsal. Watching the children support one another showed just how powerful shared experiences can be.
Throughout this term, rehearsals became opportunities for children to build confidence, try new things, and experience what it means to contribute to a collective project. The excitement grew each day as we practiced on the basketball court, prepared visual backdrops, and talked about what it means to perform in front of our families and the whole school. These moments brought rich learning, all grounded in our democratic and child-centred approach.
A huge thank you goes to Abi for putting together the video that supported our performance. We would also like to express our deep appreciation to Steve, Gabriel’s dad, for the enormous amount of work he put in behind the scenes to bring all of the technical components together. His time, skill, and generosity have been invaluable and very much appreciated.
Wednesday was another highlight, as we enjoyed our final visit to Lane Cove Library for the year. The children walked beautifully to the library. We listened to stories about bedtime and routines before exploring the junior section. Everyone chose a book or two to borrow and bring back to preschool. These library visits have supported the children’s love of literacy, connection to community, and independence in selecting texts that interest them.
Spanish lessons also continued, with children engaging in vocabulary games and responding confidently to familiar words and phrases.
As we reflect on this week, the concert truly feels like a celebration of the children’s learning journeys, relationships, and agency. We are incredibly proud of everything they have contributed. We will now focus on our preparations for the upcoming annual preschool afternoon tea!
