Preschool News Week 5 Term 3
Hello everyone,
This week we celebrated Book Week at Currambena, although in many ways every week is book week in preschool. Our days are always filled with reading stories, both much-loved favourites and new discoveries. It was especially wonderful to have children bring in their favourite books from home to share with the group.
Our Book Week activities culminated on Friday with our Book Parade. Despite the inclement weather, the children were enthusiastic and proudly took part. Throughout the week, Serena, our student teacher, nurtured their love of literacy through dramatisations, beginning with traditional fairy tales and then moving on to stories popular within preschool. As always, the children were confident, engaged, and eager performers, delighting in bringing these stories to life.
We would like to thank Serena for her contributions over the past four weeks. Friday was her last day with us, and we wish her all the best as she completes her degree in Primary and Early Childhood Education.
Alongside Book Week, our learning focus on astronomy continued. This week we turned our attention to Planet Earth, one of the rocky planets in our solar system and our home that gives us life. The children created plasticine models of Earth, carefully layering the inner core, outer core, mantle, and crust, while also exploring volcanoes as a natural feature of our planet.
We were also fortunate to visit Kimberley Playground on Monday before the heavy rain arrived. The children enjoyed active outdoor play and connecting with the local environment. On Tuesday, we welcomed back Chris (ex-preschool teacher), who continues to spark creativity by helping children transform their drawings into sewn creations.
As always, music, Spanish, and craft remain highlights of our weekly program, along with the much-loved tradition of ice blocks on Fridays.
A big thank you to everyone who participated in maintenance day on Sunday. Your time and efforts in caring for our school are very much appreciated.
Looking at the week ahead, we’ll be walking to Kimberley Playground on Monday. On Tuesday, Lane Cove Fire and Rescue will visit preschool with their fire truck to reinforce the importance of fire safety with the children. This ties in beautifully with our astronomy focus on fire and volcanoes. If your child does not attend on Tuesday, you are very welcome to come along with them. Fire and Rescue have let us know they will arrive at 10am. On Wednesday we’ll be heading up to Lane Cove Library for our fortnightly library visit. Ensuring children are at preschool as close as possible to 9am helps everyone settle before we head off on our routine excursions.
