Preschool News Week 4 Term 3

Hello everyone,

As always, it’s been a whirlwind of a week with lots happening.

We’ve spent time discussing the fairness of some of the opportunities available for children in preschool such as chairing morning meeting, preparing the fruit and veggie platter and running the end of day activity. After running poles and votes we’ve discovered that 32 out of 35 children want to take part in these things. Some children are chairing and running activities often while others have only done it once or twice this year. To make this more equitable it was decided that you could put your name down on one of the charts per fortnight. We also ran an opinion vote regarding an additional chart that would enable children to run their own group time (with the assistance from a teacher). The majority of the children voted they would like to trial this.

We’ve been focusing on fire and fire safety in preschool. We learnt that fires need 3 elements to ignite, oxygen, heat and fire. We’ve looked at safe and unsafe fires. What to do in the unlikely event of your clothes catching on fire or your house and the importance of having an emergency plan with your family. Most importantly children have learnt how precious they are and while their clothes and toys can be replaced they can’t. This means if there is ever a fire at school or at home the most important thing is for them to get out safely. Hopefully we’ll receive a visit from Fire and Rescue shortly. We’ve also hoping to have a preschool fire very soon.

The Rainbow Lorikeets that frequent the preschool and who we have named “The Bilbil boys” (based on the Rainbow Snake dreaming story) have brought their baby to visit us. We are all so delighted and have enjoyed observing them teach their baby how to be independent, much like human animals teach their children. We’re hoping to make them a bird feeding soon, they are however enjoying the apple and seeds we feed them.

There’s been a keen interest in play on the basketball court, experimenting with skateboards and other wheels, we’ve had many impromptu science experiments throughout the week as well.
