Preschool News: Week 3 Term1
Dear Families,
We’ve had a fantastic week at preschool, diving deeper into our ongoing exploration of astronomy! This week, we focused on the birth of stars and the creation of our solar system, sparking so much curiosity and excitement among the children. We’ll continue to build on this theme in the coming weeks, exploring more fascinating aspects of space.
The children continue to love their Monday music sessions with Gemma, Spanish with Carolina on Wednesdays, and craft on Thursdays. This week’s craft session was particularly engaging as the children had their first experience with marble painting, which mesmerized them! It was wonderful to see their creativity and enthusiasm.
Tuesday was a special day as many preschool children formed new connections with the Elders of the school during Buddies. In our circle meeting, the two groups came together, with many preschoolers eagerly choosing a “Buddy” from Wendy’s class. It was a full-circle moment, as many of Wendy’s students began their own journey at Currambena in preschool and are now stepping into their role as school Elders.
We are also excited that everyone now has their own avatar set up on ELLA, allowing them to explore the Spanish program via the iPads. This has been a fantastic way to extend their learning and engagement with the language.
This week, we were fortunate to have May in preschool, along with Vinnie, who has been helping out while Abi has been away. A big thank you to them for their support!
As always, volcanoes, water play in the mud kitchen, and games continue to be a big hit, providing lots of fun and hands-on learning opportunities. Another lovely aspect of our week has been the continued connection with younger primary children, especially last year’s preschoolers, who regularly visit. It’s always heartwarming to see these friendships continue to flourish.
Thank you to everyone who has helped with the preschool washing! We’re currently waiting for all cleaning cloths to be returned. If you still have some at home, we’d love to get them back as we’re running low. Otherwise, we’ll need to purchase new ones, which isn’t the most sustainable option. Your help in keeping our preschool eco-friendly is greatly appreciated!
This Wednesday and Thursday, we have a wonderful opportunity to showcase our unique, democratic, child-centered approach as the Department of Education visits Currambena Preschool for a full assessment under the National Quality Standard (NQS). This is a chance to celebrate the rich learning environment we cultivate, where children’s voices are valued, their choices respected, and their curiosity encouraged. We look forward to sharing our philosophy in action and highlighting the incredible community that makes Currambena so special!
