Preschool News Week 3 Term 3

Hello everyone,

Another fun week in preschool full of curiosity, creativity, and cosmic questions.

Our ongoing exploration of astronomy took a leap forward as we focused on the birth of stars, the process of nuclear fusion, and how molecular clouds give rise to celestial bodies. The children were fascinated to learn that when our sun was formed, there was still some energy left over, and that this is what became the planets in our solar system. These concepts inspired a range of expressive drawings, conversations, and questions, showing just how deeply children are engaging with these big ideas.

A big thank you to Chris Price, who worked in preschool for many years, including alongside Michael and me, and brought her incredible sewing skills to share with the children on Tuesday. Those who took part were thrilled with their creations, proudly wearing or bringing them back to share throughout the week. We truly appreciate Chris’s time and look forward to welcoming her back next Thursday for another day of sewing.

We spent time with our student teacher Serena who is beginning to lead group times. These experiences have provided opportunities for children to practice listening and contributing in different ways, as we support Serena in developing confidence and responsiveness.

In the craft room, children continued to explore fine motor provocations, including sawing, working with hammers and nails and beading with some newly introduced oversized beads. These experiences built on last week’s work and offered chances for persistence, creativity, and storytelling through materials.

As always, the preschool was alive with shared reading, construction, music, playdough, and plenty of outdoor play, with children continuing to bring their own ideas and interests into the space.

We look forward to next week as we continue to follow the children’s questions through the stars and beyond.
