Preschool News Week 2 Term 3
Hello everyone,
It’s been another fun and engaging week, full of meaningful play, big ideas, and strong community connections.
On Monday, we headed out on our regular excursion to Kimberley Playground, where the children had a wonderful time climbing, swinging, and exploring the challenging play equipment together. It was a refreshing and active start to the week, and a great opportunity to enjoy the mild, sunny weather.
Also on Monday, we enjoyed our very first music class with Kym. In a wonderful coincidence, Kym introduced us to songs all about stars, which connected beautifully with our ongoing focus on astronomy. The children were completely engaged as Kym guided us through musical concepts such as crescendos, rhythm and beats It was lovely to see everyone so involved and responding so positively to everything Kym shared with us. We’re all looking forward to more music classes with Kym this term.
Our astronomy investigations have continued to capture the children’s imaginations. We’ve been exploring how stars are born and what happens when they come to the end of their life. Concepts like stardust, star gas, and nebulas have sparked thoughtful questions, shared wonderings, and some beautifully expressive artwork and storytelling. It’s been fantastic to see how deeply the children are engaging with these ideas.
Thank you to all families who have returned the updated Start Strong consent form. We completely understand the frustration of being asked to complete a form you’ve already signed, and we appreciate your patience. Having the new version on file is a funding requirement and allows us to apply your Start Strong fee relief to the remainder of the year. Your cooperation is genuinely appreciated.
With the weather beginning to warm (even though it didn’t feel like it was from Wednesday onwards), the UV index is now reaching 3, which means we require sun protection for part of the school day. Please ensure your child has a broad-brimmed or legionnaires hat packed in their bag, so we can support safe and sun-protected outdoor play.
We’d also like to thank the families who’ve been contributing fresh fruit and vegetables for our daily fruit platter. It continues to be a valued part of our day, encouraging healthy eating, sharing, and the simple joy of sitting together and enjoying something fresh.
We’ve enjoyed welcoming Serena into preschool, who will be with us for another three weeks. Serena is in the final stages of completing her degree in Primary and Early Childhood Education. We’re also looking forward to Lisa’s return from leave on Monday, 4 August, and know the children will be excited to see her again.
Next week on Monday and Friday, I will be away attending a professional development workshop focused on the latest preschool outcome measures and new formative assessment tools developed by ACER. Currently, I’m working on developmental summaries for each child, reflecting on their learning and growth throughout the first half of this year. These reflections form an important part of our planning and help us capture each child’s strengths, learning style, and developmental progress.
