Preschool News Term 1 Week 2

Hello everyone,

What a lovely start we have had to the year in preschool. It has been a joy to welcome children in their second year of preschool back and to see the new children settling in. There’s lots of reconnecting, connecting and getting to know one another as a community of learners. There has been a real sense of warmth and belonging across the space.

A very warm Currambena welcome to Meeta and Lida, who have joined us in preschool this year as Diploma trained assistants. We are so pleased to have you as part of the Currambena community.

Our elders have done an exceptional job supporting the transition into the year. They have welcomed children, helped peers settle, and enjoyed reconnecting with one another. Their confidence and leadership play such an important role in creating a calm and inclusive preschool environment, and we are already seeing this shine through.

As we find our rhythm, we are getting used to the flow and routine of the day. A key focus at the beginning of the year is safety, how we keep ourselves and others safe, and how we care for one another within the community. This is leading into shared agreements, including the importance of asking before touching someone and respecting the response that is given. These conversations are ongoing and are being embedded naturally throughout the day.

Music has been a big passion for many of the children, with Crazy Frog currently a preschool favourite that is getting everyone up, moving, and laughing together. We also enjoyed our first Spanish and music classes this week, and last week the children took part in craft with Sarah, which was met with great enthusiasm.

You may notice that we are currently in what is often referred to as the “honeymoon period.” It is very common for children to initially feel excited and happy to attend preschool and then experience some separation difficulties once they realise that preschool is an ongoing part of their routine. This is a normal and expected part of the transition process. As you can see from the photos, the children are having a great time, and we are here to support them, and you, as we move through these early weeks together.

For now, we are intentionally bunkering down in preschool, focusing on building a safe, familiar space and getting to know each child and their abilities. Once everyone is feeling more settled, we will begin heading down to the craft room and into the library for music sessions.

A friendly reminder to please label lunch boxes and drink bottles, and to ensure your child has a broad-brimmed or legionnaire-style hat each day.

We are very much looking forward to seeing parents this Thursday 12th February at 6pm for our parent information evening, and to continuing this positive start to the year together.
