Preschool News: Term 4 Week 3

Hello everyone,

It’s been another busy week in preschool, there’s certainly been plenty happening!

Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t on our side on Monday, so we gave the park a miss. The children have continued to really enjoy drama with Bec, and canteen has been as popular as ever!

In Spanish, the children have been learning about shapes through song, and it seems the learning is making its way home too! Carolina mentioned bumping into a preschool parent who was happily singing along to the shapes song. Here’s the link to the song if you’d like to join in at home. We also took part in the Ecuadorian bake sale, which was a lovely opportunity to join in with the wider school community.

Concert preparations are keeping us busy! We’ve been practising our songs and are still working with the children on our final performance piece and dance moves. Bringing everyone’s ideas together can be quite a challenge, but we’re getting there!

On Friday we took part in a Day for Daniel, Austrlia’s Biggest Child Safety Program, a good opportunity to highlight the protective behaviours work that’s already embedded in our everyday practice. We regularly talk with the children about being the boss of their own bodies, recognising when something doesn’t feel right and knowing who they can turn to for help.

An important part of this is giving children the opportunity to identify their own safe people, rather than assuming they’ll automatically see teachers or other adults as people they can trust. We remind the children that we’re always here to help, whether they’re worried, upset or navigating difficulties with friends. Supporting children with conflict resolution, speaking up for themselves and expressing their feelings is all part of this ongoing learning.

Coming Up – Living Safely with Dogs

On Monday 16 November at 10:30am, we’ll be welcoming the Living Safely with Dogs program to preschool. Through fun, age-appropriate activities, the children will learn how to interact safely with dogs, including asking permission before approaching, recognising when dogs need space and what to do if an unfamiliar dog approaches them. If your child doesn’t usually attend on Mondays, they’re very welcome to come along with a parent or carer for the session.

Looking forward to another busy week!
