Preschool News: Term 3 Week 7

Hello everyone,

It’s been another busy week in preschool, with lots happening both inside and out. The warmer weather has meant plenty of outdoor play, and our new water trough has been getting a lot of use. We’ve also been busy cooking, making banana bread and cornflake cookies ready for our Father’s Day breakfast on Monday.

A big focus this week has been conflict resolution, or CR, and talking with children about what we can do when problems come up in play. We’ve been discussing some of the language that can creep in when children are upset with each other, things like “You can’t come to my party,” or using friendship as a way of getting back at someone.

We’ve been talking about how having a problem with someone is actually okay. Problems happen, and they’re a chance to practise working things out. We’ve been helping children think about what they can say, how they can tell someone when they don’t like something, and when they might need to ask an adult for help.

An important part of this is helping children feel confident to use their own voice, while also understanding that sometimes they need support if another child isn’t listening or the problem feels too big to manage on their own.

Finally, we’d like to wish all of our preschool dads, grandfathers and other important people a very happy Father’s Day for Sunday.

And don’t forget, our Father’s Day Breakfast is on Monday from 8:30–9:30am. We’re looking forward to seeing everyone who can make it!
