Preschool News: Term 3 Week 5

Hello everyone,

It has been another busy and varied week in preschool, with Art Week adding plenty of extra opportunities across the school for preschool. While not everyone was initially keen to participate, children were invited to explore what was on offer, including comic and zine making and stop-go animation. A highlight was seeing children bring the monsters they had designed to life through animation.

Back in preschool, play continued to be rich, promoting collaboration and cooperation. Construction has been particularly popular, with children combining Lego and Duplo, creating elaborate block structures and experimenting with the marble labyrinth. Games, play dough, drawing, painting, dramatic play and cubby building have also kept everyone busy. Spanish with Carolina continued our exploration of body parts, with children enthusiastically labelling a life-sized body outline in Spanish.

Our group times this week have continued to focus on kindness, relationships and problems that can arise in play. Through discussions and role-play, we explored exclusion, children being the boss of our own bodies, making their own decisions and what they can do when play isn’t feeling fair or kind.

On Monday 24 August, Currambena will be celebrating Book Week, with a Book Week Parade and Buy a Book morning. The Bookery will be set up from 8.30am, with families able to choose and purchase books to donate to the Currambena Library and add their name to the “Donated by slip. Weather permitting, this will be outside as will be a whole school book parade starting at 9am.

Children are encouraged to come dressed as a favourite book character for the parade. If Monday is not your child’s usual preschool day, they are very welcome to join us for the parade but will need to be accompanied by a parent or carer.

Preschool will also be joining Joanna’s class for a special Book Week illustrator talk on Monday afternoon at 1pm. Again, if this isn’t your child’s normal day, they are welcome to join us though will need to be accompanied by an adult. We’re looking forward to a wonderful week celebrating books, stories and illustrations!
