Preschool News: Term 3 Week 2

Hello everyone,

It has been another busy week at preschool, with the children settling back into familiar routines, reconnecting with peers and revisiting shared interests.

We didn’t make it to Kimberley Playground on Monday due to the health needs of several children. We hope to go this coming Monday, so please ensure your child arrives as close as possible to 9:00 am to help us leave on time. Kym joined us for music, where the children worked together to create a song about a heartbeat.

Our fire-safety investigation also continued, with the children contributing ideas to our fire-pit agreements and risk assessment. They discussed what fire needs to burn, how smoke behaves and how to respond in an emergency.

On Tuesday, Chris joined us for sewing and creative experiences. A big thank you to her for sharing her time and skills with the children.

On Wednesday, we visited Lane Cove Library for dinosaur-themed Storytime. The children selected books to borrow, and these have already been enjoyed throughout preschool. They also participated in animal-inspired yoga, during Spanish, developing balance, strength, body awareness and concentration.

Octonauts continues to be a strong interest to many of the children. The children have created detailed games involving sea creatures, rescue missions and underwater habitats. It has been lovely to see friendships developing as children share knowledge, build on one another’s ideas and return independently to their play throughout the day.

Creative experiences have included splatter painting, drawing, construction, sewing and jewellery-making. The mud kitchen has also remained popular, with the children finding many imaginative ways to mix, pour and create with natural materials.

We held a fire drill on Monday, Wednesday & Thursday, and everyone is to be congratulated for responding calmly and moving safely to the basketball court. During group time, children chose between continuing the fire-safety investigations and playing Ninja Tag, among other things, supporting their agency and involvement in the program.

Reading has been enjoyed throughout the week in many areas of preschool, with children reading independently, listening to educators and sharing familiar stories with peers.

Brighter Beginnings Reports

Families who participated in the Brighter Beginnings checks should now have received their child’s report through Kiteworks. Please check your junk or spam folder if you have not seen the email. The download link expires after 14 days.

We would greatly appreciate families sharing a copy of the report, or the results and recommendations, with preschool so we can celebrate your child’s strengths and support their ongoing development.

Transition to School Consent Forms

The Transition to School Digital Statement portal is now open. I need a completed consent form for every child attending school next year.

Only a small number have been returned so far. Please send your child’s form back as soon as possible. These statements support continuity of learning and help receiving schools understand each child’s strengths, interests and learning needs.
