Preschool News: Term 2 Week 7

Hello everyone,

This week in preschool we have continued to enjoy the steady rhythm of our days. Morning meetings, hearing about the day’s activities, children confidently sharing ideas for the day ahead and our end of day routine, which often includes heading to the top playground, have all become important opportunities for children to lead experiences and find their voice in preschool.

Many children are keen to take on these roles, whether chairing morning meetings, leading the end of day activity or taking part in these experiences. These opportunities give children meaningful ways to practise responsibility, confidence, communication, listening and care for the group.

Across the week there has been a lovely mix of indoor and outdoor play, including drawing, easel painting, kinetic sand, marble labyrinths, games from home, bubbles on the basketball court, music and stories.

There has also been a continuing interest in literacy and books, with children exploring storytelling, noticing how pictures can tell a story, using their imaginations and sharing ideas about what might be happening on the page.

On Friday we enjoyed time in the bottom playground, picnicking together and sharing fresh bread, fruit and vegetables. Children who were interested were also able to spend some time in the Axolotls classroom.

A very important reminder for all families is that nuts, peanut products and foods containing nuts must not be brought to preschool or school.

We have children across the school with a range of nut allergies, including children with anaphylaxis. We ask all families to please check lunchboxes carefully and avoid packing nuts, nut products, peanut butter sandwiches or foods containing nuts. Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe.

On Wednesday we will be heading to Lane Cove Library for our routine library visit.

We have also continued to keep children’s safety, wellbeing and best interests at the centre of our decisions. This principle of paramountcy guides the small and large choices we make each day, including supervision, routines, relationships, food safety and how we support children’s play and agency.

There will also be a School Council meeting on the following Monday night (15th June). If any preschool families would like to attend and hear more about the school, you would be very welcome.

A big thank you to Chris Price, who returned to preschool on Tuesday to offer children the opportunity to sew with her. Chris worked in preschool for many years, and we always appreciate her returning to support children to bring their drawn creations to life.
