Preschool News: Term 2 Week 5
Hello everyone,
It has been another busy and connected week in preschool.
We wanted to let families know that Currambena Preschool is taking part in the 2026 Health and Development Participation Grant. As part of this, we will be working towards strengthening the way we support children’s communication, learning, wellbeing and development within the preschool program.
This aligns closely with our ongoing commitment to knowing each child well, noticing their strengths and needs, and working in partnership with families. In preparation for this work, Katrina has completed professional learning connected to Preschool Outcomes Measures, Health and Development Checks in Early Childhood Education and Care, and Brighter Beginnings, Connect and Communicate.
These areas of learning support educators to observe children’s development more intentionally, respond to communication and learning needs, and make thoughtful adjustments within everyday preschool experiences. For children, this will continue to look like familiar play, conversations, stories, small group times, movement, music, and everyday interactions. Behind the scenes, educators will be thinking carefully about how these experiences support children’s communication, confidence, participation and sense of belonging.
This week, children have continued to enjoy many of the experiences that make up our preschool program. We had Spanish with Carolina, music and singing with Kym, and craft with Chris, where children made dipped candles and explored drawing, music, rhythm and beat. We also enjoyed canteen on Monday, and we would like to thank the preschool parents who helped make this possible.
There has also been cooking in preschool as we celebrated Lisa’s birthday, along with ongoing birthday celebrations for children in the group. We joined the rest of the school community on Wednesday to buy from the Axalotl’s class stall, which preschool children seemed to enjoy.
These moments continue to support connection, belonging and shared community life. We have also been strengthening our connections with the wider school. On Friday, some children headed off to school meeting, and we have continued enjoying picnics at the bottom playground. These experiences support children to feel part of the broader Currambena community.
We are hoping to visit Lane Cove Library next Wednesday. At the moment, we only have around half of the required permission forms returned. We will not be able to go unless all permission forms are returned, so please return these as soon as possible. I will also send a separate reminder email to families.
A big thank you to everyone who supports preschool in so many different ways. A special thank you to Martin’s dad for coming in to clean all our windows on Thursday. They are sparkling, and it has made such a difference to the preschool environment.
As always, children’s safety, rights and wellbeing remain the paramount consideration in our decisions and actions.
