Preschool News: Term 2 Week 4

Hello everyone,

It’s been a busy week in preschool.

Thank you to everyone who came along to our Mother’s Day breakfast on Monday. It was lovely to share the morning with so many families. Apologies to those who weren’t able to make it. We tried to hold it as close as possible to Mother’s Day and at a time that sat mostly outside preschool operating hours, so families had the best chance of being able to attend.

We had planned to head to Lane Cove Library this week, however the rain meant we needed to cancel on the morning. When I contacted the library to let them know we wouldn’t be attending, they asked if we could adjust the time of our regular visits. Because of this change, I will need to resend routine excursion permission forms with the updated time. This helps ensure our documentation is accurate and that we continue to meet our regulatory requirements. Once the updated forms are returned, we can begin heading off to the library, and hopefully the park, more regularly.

As the weather gets colder, we are beginning to think about how our program naturally shifts. We are hoping to do more cooking with the children and may even take some of our cooking on picnics with us. On Friday, many of us headed down to the bottom playground for a picnic and play. While we were there, the children also had the opportunity to explore the axolotl class which is the first primary classroom. We will continue to build in these small visits across the school, as they support children’s connection with the wider Currambena community.

This week we have also enjoyed music with Kym, Spanish with Carolina, and craft with Chris. These regular experiences continue to offer the children different ways to express themselves, explore language, movement, creativity and connection.

We have also been talking with the children about risk assessments and how their voices can be included in decisions that affect them. This has included discussions about the top playground and the development of shared agreements around how we use that space safely. These conversations are an important part of helping children understand risk, responsibility and community decision making.

As always, children’s safety, rights and wellbeing remain the paramount consideration in our planning, routines and daily decisions.
