Preschool News: Term 1 Week 9

Hello everybody,

It has been another full week in preschool.

We would like to thank Lida, Nora (Liam’s mum), and Nastaran (Deeba’s mum) for sharing Nowruz, Persian New Year, with us on Wednesday. Nora and Nastaran are parents of children in the Axolotl group, Joanna’s class. The children experienced a thoughtfully prepared puppet show and had the opportunity to learn about Persian culture and traditions. We appreciate the time and care that went into creating this experience for the children.

We would also like to thank Gabriela, Holly’s mum, for joining us on Tuesday to share Irish dancing in celebration of St. Patrick’s Day. The children watched with interest and many joined in, enjoying the movement and music. It was a valuable opportunity to experience another cultural tradition together.

Our work in relation to the schoolwide What Matters focus continued this week. In preschool, we are focusing on building a strong sense of safety and belonging, supporting children as they settle into the year, and creating space for children to share their family backgrounds and cultures.

Thank you to everyone who attended the What Matters Festival on Friday evening. It was a great opportunity to come together as a community and reflect on the learning across the term.

We would also like to thank all the families who contributed to Maintenance Day last weekend. Your support in caring for the preschool and school environment is appreciated.

I have recently been engaging in professional learning around paramountcy and updates to child safety legislation. This work continues to guide our practice, ensuring that children’s safety, wellbeing, and rights remain central to all decision-making.

I also wanted to let you know that I was absent from preschool on Friday and unable to attend on Friday evening due to a recent bereavement in my family, with the passing of my mother-in-law. I will also be away on Monday, thank you to Abi for covering for me on Friday and Meeta working on Monday, I will be returning to preschool on Tuesday.
