Preschool News: Term 1 Week 6
It has been a busy week in preschool, with many opportunities for children to play, explore, and connect with each other.
It has been good to see the group settling into the term. Children are building relationships across the day and spending time with a range of peers through play both indoors and outdoors.
Craft on Thursday was an engaging experience that the children really seemed to enjoy. Sarah supported children to practise drawing and tracing. Many children spent time working carefully with the materials and developing their drawing skills. They were so interested in this activity that when we returned to preschool many of the children continued working on it. We will be providing opportunities for children to revisit this experience over the coming weeks.
Spanish with Carolina continues to be a highlight. The children enjoyed the bowling activity while practising counting in Spanish. We extended this interest in preschool play and have purchased a bowling set the same as the one Carolina used so the children can continue playing the game together.
From next week we will begin group times. Children will be able to choose which group they would like to join, allowing for shared activities and conversations in smaller groups. A highlight of the week was celebrating Holi, the Festival of Colours. Thank you to Parul and Zunjar for sharing this cultural celebration with us. The children explored coloured powder outdoors and we extended the experience by creating a rainbow handprint mural together. We also watched short videos showing how children in India celebrate Holi. It was interesting to notice the similarities between the ways children celebrated there and how we celebrated in preschool. The children were delighted to receive some special Indian treats at the end of the celebration.
Thank you to Marie, Ollie’s mum, for donating equipment for our home corner. It has already been well used in dramatic play. Thank you also to Emilia, Alex’s mum, for
donating several games, which the children have been enjoying together.
