Preschool News: Term 1 Week 3

Hi everyone,

What a full and fun week we’ve shared together in preschool. There has been such a lovely feeling of the group settling in and really beginning to feel like a community.

Firstly, a big thank you to all the families who came along to the Information Evening last Thursday. It was great to see so many of you there. We hope you found it informative and that it gave you a better understanding of the rhythm of our days, our philosophy, and what matters most to us in preschool. Your engagement and partnership are so important in building connection between home and preschool.

Our morning meetings are becoming more settled and purposeful, with children increasingly able to take part. There has been lots of energetic outdoor play. The silver slide is becoming a place where children play alongside one another, with the physical movement supporting regulation and helping everyone feel comfortable. Children have been negotiating turns and sustaining play for long periods, both on the slide and on the top deck, where we enjoyed many enthusiastic rounds of What’s the Time, Mr Wolf and Crocodile, Crocodile. These shared games are a great way for children to connect, build confidence and experience the joy of participating together.

Inside, the construction area has been busy with thoughtful building and problem solving, while the home corner has been filled with dramatic family play, conversations and role negotiation. Music continues to be a strong thread through our days. We’ve been singing, dancing, roaring, performing, puzzling with Bluey, and of course playing plenty of Keepy Uppy. There is something special about the way music brings everyone together.

With the rain falling one day, it felt like the perfect opportunity for one last craft session in preschool before we begin heading downstairs next week. Sarah joined us and we created a collaborative collage tree. Each child, and even parents, were invited to add a wish for the year ahead. It is already becoming a meaningful symbol of hope and belonging for our group.

Across the week, we’ve continued gently reinforcing safety and kindness, particularly around where different types of play belong. The group is learning that big running games are for outside, and that inside spaces require calm bodies. We are seeing real growth in children’s ability to respond to these expectations.

It truly feels like everyone is beginning to find their place. Friendships are forming, confidence is building, and there is a lovely sense of shared joy in our days.
