Preschool News: Term 1 Week 4

Hi everyone,

This week provided many opportunities for children to experience the cultures and traditions represented within our preschool. Through conversations, shared stories and group experiences, the children learned about Chinese New Year, Ramadan and Carnaval during Spanish. These experiences prompted questions and discussions about how different families celebrate, and we spoke about kindness, generosity, celebration and community.

We have also begun expanding our sense of place beyond the preschool environment. On Thursday we walked down to the craft room for our first session in this space. For some children this felt like a significant step, as they begin to move more confidently through the wider school with teacher guidance and supervision. Over the coming weeks we hope this growing familiarity will support independence and a sense of belonging across the school.

Within preschool, the daily rhythm continues to settle. Morning meetings are becoming more purposeful. Some children are finding group experiences challenging at times, and we are supporting them with strategies to help them participate in ways that feel manageable. Collaborative play is strengthening, and shared experiences such as mask making, space drawings, music, movement games and water play are supporting relationships and a sense of belonging.

We also began our astronomy learning this week. Some of last year ’s preschoolers, now in primary, joined us for an astronomy session on Thursday, and we will continue this learning throughout the term. This work is being linked to caring for our bodies, including drinking water regularly and eating nourishing foods. Thank you to families for the fresh fruit and vegetables sent each day, this supports healthy eating within the preschool environment.

It has been lovely to see the children growing in confidence as they explore and learn from one another in preschool. That’s a wrap for Week 4.
