Meg’s Class: Term 3 Week 8
Hi everyone,
Monday morning saw our classroom transformed back into Parliament, this time as the Senate. The children took on the roles of senators to debate the Extra PIP Time Bill and a bill proposing additional Chromebook free time (with agreed parameters). After successfully passing through both the House of Representatives and the Senate, the bills received the “Governor-General’s” stamp of approval and officially became law. As a result, The Freedom Party was able to introduce the new law and run Wednesday morning’s first inside time.
On Tuesday, the children began their second sport selections for the term. A reminder that it is important for students to wear appropriate clothing and running shoes so they can comfortably and safely participate in their chosen activities.
A big thank you to Sean, who took the class on Wednesday. He shared some wonderful feedback about the group and was particularly impressed by the students’ independence and the leadership skills they demonstrated during Class Meeting. A huge well done to everyone!
In Maths, we wrapped up our unit on measurement, focusing on converting between different units of length. In English, we concentrated on our quick writing, using last week’s planning and ideas to write a full essay. I was incredibly impressed with the quality of work produced, especially as essay writing is a new challenge for many students in the group.
This week also saw our first PIP presentation. A huge congratulations to Jojo and Ayaan, who presented together on Thursday. We have more presentations scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday, so please check the PIP presentation document in our Google Drive to make sure you don’t miss your child’s timeslot.
Looking ahead to this week, Thursday is Summerhill Day. I will be completing the final session of my professional learning course, so Sean will be taking the class again for the day. Finally, on Friday we have our Multicultural School Social. It would be wonderful to see everyone come along and join in the celebrations!
With love,
Meg
