Meg’s Class: Term 3 Week 5

Hi everyone,

Another very exciting week!

On Monday, we spent some time reminiscing about the wonderful time we had at camp. The children enjoyed reflecting on their experiences and writing thank-you letters to the many people who helped make our camp possible. It was lovely to see them thinking about the people they were grateful to and expressing their appreciation.

We also ventured to the library, where the children each borrowed a book connected to their PIP research topic. As part of their research, they are now exploring information from a range of media sources to broaden their understanding of their chosen topics
and develop the skills they will need as they transition to high school.

On Tuesday morning, we celebrated Science Week! The children worked in mixed groups with children from across the Primary, exploring a range of fun and engaging science activities. It was wonderful to see them collaborating, experimenting and sharing their ideas with one another.

From Wednesday to Friday, the children once again worked in cross-Primary groups, this time for Art Week, where they explored the theme of storytelling. They experimented with a variety of creative forms, including comics, zines, collaborative artworks and different types of animation. The children worked incredibly hard throughout the week and produced an amazing collection of creative and imaginative pieces.

We were particularly excited to see some of their work displayed at the Alpha Gallery, as well as at Cockatoo Comics in Newtown. It was a wonderful opportunity for the children to see their work shared beyond the classroom and to celebrate all they had created.

Looking ahead: We have another very busy and exciting week ahead, with Book Week celebrations and plenty of other wonderful activities planned!

Monday: Our Book Week Parade will take place at 9:00am. Please encourage your child to come dressed as a favourite book character and, if possible, bring along the book their character comes from.

Tuesday: We will be heading to Lane Cove Library in the afternoon for an author visit.

Wednesday: Jess’ class will be holding a bake sale at lunchtime to raise money for those affected by the recent earthquake in Colombia. We will also have Sport, where the children will have the opportunity to learn a variety of Spanish dances.

Friday: It’s Wear It Purple Day! Some of the children in our group have decided they would like to organise an event to celebrate the day. Please encourage your child to wear purple on Friday and bring along some money to purchase purple treats, with funds raised going towards the Wear It Purple organisation.

Finally, a reminder about Jump Rope for Heart! Please make sure your child is signed up. It is a fantastic programme that encourages children to get active, have fun and support a great cause. We really encourage everyone to get involved and see if they can raise some money along the way! Our “Jump Off” day will be on 1 September.

We hope you all had a lovely weekend and are looking forward to another exciting week!

With love,
Meg
