Meg’s Class: Term 2 Week 7
Hi everyone,
This week for sport, we ventured to Lane Cove Tennis Club to take part in some specialist tennis coaching sessions. Despite the rainy weather, we thoroughly enjoyed learning new skills and are looking forward to our next two Tuesdays, where we will continue to develop our tennis abilities.
A reminder that it is very important for children to wear appropriate sports clothing and shoes, and to bring their hats and drink bottles to school. Being prepared helps them participate safely and to the best of their ability.
In Science, we continued our investigation into animal adaptations, focusing on platypuses. We created a simulation in which we pretended to be platypuses searching for food under different lighting conditions. Students dug for counters hidden in sand in complete darkness, dim lighting, and full lighting while an “animal” hunted them. We compared the number of counters collected in each situation and found that, for most students, the greatest number were collected in dim lighting. We then discussed how this relates to the behavioural adaptations of platypuses and their preferred hunting times. Students learned that platypuses are crepuscular animals, meaning they are most active and hunt during twilight.
Our Mathematics focus this week and next is exploring a range of strategies for solving multiplication and division problems.
On Wednesday afternoon, Carrie and Grayson taught a lesson about memes. They began by sharing information about the meme-making company they have started and then taught the class how to create their own memes. The lesson even turned into a bit of a coincidental English lesson as students explored language and communication through humour. Well done to both of them for creating such an engaging and
interesting lesson!
Hudson and Ayaan also presented their PIPs this week. Congratulations to both of them on their presentations.
Following this, Alana and Stella created and performed a play for the class. It is always wonderful to see the creativity, confidence, and performance skills that our students demonstrate and develop through these opportunities.
This week, we were kindly donated a rug by Savannah’s family (Faith’s class). While we are still deciding on the perfect spot for it, many of the children have already been enjoying its comfort and squishiness!
On Friday evening, we have our Class Ball. The theme is Under the Sea, and the event will begin at 5:30 pm. The children have been working incredibly hard to organise the evening, with decorations, music, and games all coming together beautifully. We are very excited to see all of their hard work come to life.
