Meg’s Class: Term 2 Week 1

Hi everyone,

It’s been wonderful to be back with the class and settling into the new term.

We began by revisiting our class agreements, discussing what we want our classroom to look and sound like. This has helped us create a clear set of expectations we’ll refer to throughout the year.

Students have started using their new goal diaries. We are currently setting class goals together, and will soon move towards individual goals to encourage ownership of learning and personal responsibility.

This week we also began our new units. In Science, we are exploring adaptations, starting with camouflage, see if you can spot the hidden butterflies in our classroom! In English, we’ve begun Carving Kingdoms, where students will create their own worlds for later story writing.

With ANZAC Day approaching, the children showed great interest in learning about the ANZACs. We explored the journey of soldiers and wrote letters from their perspective, which we aged using tea staining. We also enjoyed a special visit from Wendy, who shared stories about her grandfather’s experiences in WWI, along with some delicious ANZAC biscuits made by Ollie.

Some children have decided to take some work home to complete over the weekend. Please support them in achieving this as it is important they are up to date before we continue to move on in our Maths and English programs.

This week in Class Meeting we created an Afternoon Tea Schedule for this term. It is in our class Google Drive, please make sure to check it, so you are across when your child has nominated to bring in afternoon tea.

We have Sport on Tuesdays, please ensure that your child comes to school with appropriate footwear (sports shoes), a drink bottle and hat, as we leave school to attend special sporting sessions.

It’s been a fantastic start to the term and we’re looking forward to a busy and exciting few weeks ahead.
