Meg’s Class: Term 1 Week 8

Hi everyone,

What a busy and exciting week it has been!

On Monday, we spent time reflecting on our experiences at camp and began writing thank-you letters to everyone who helped make the trip possible.

On Tuesday, we visited the Art Gallery of NSW. We enjoyed morning tea at Mike Hewson’s The Key’s Under the Mat, a community park and playground created using salvaged and repurposed materials. We then explored Art Express, an exhibition showcasing selected works from high-achieving HSC students across NSW. This experience gave us lots of inspiration and ideas for our upcoming What Matters Festival. A big thank you to Alina and Emily for their support on the day.

Wednesday marked our first Summerhill Day of the year. Many students ran their own activities, and it was wonderful to see them step into the role of “teacher” and share their passions with their peers.

On Thursday, we began working on our final writing pieces for the What Matters Festival. With World Down Syndrome Day approaching over the weekend and our school Crazy Sock Day on Friday, we also took time to discuss its significance. We talked about how this is something that deeply matters to one of our students, who is taking action to raise awareness and encourage community support. It was a meaningful opportunity to explore how individuals can advocate for what matters to them in different ways.

A big thank you to Sean, who took the class on Friday while I attended a Professional Development Day. He reported that the students had a fantastic day!

Looking ahead to next week, we will be focusing heavily on our What Matters projects as the festival takes place this Friday. As a result, there have been some adjustments to our PIPs schedule, and updated presentation dates will be shared next term.
