Meg’s Class: Term 1 Week 5

Hi everyone,

We are officially halfway through the term! It has flown by so quickly, I can ’t believe it.

This week in Maths, we explored the Cartesian Coordinate System. We discussed real-life applications such as chess, mapping, and computer game design. To practise our skills, we played games of Battleship, providing coordinates to our partners and plotting them on Cartesian grids.

We also launched our class economy, something the children voted on last week, where they earn MB (Meg Bucks) for completing their pack-away jobs. Naturally, this has already evolved into students creating “side hustles” and engaging in some very serious negotiations! There have even been suggestions to start an insurance company and introduce inflation. While we’re beginning with the basics, it’s fun to see where their ideas might take us.

In English, we analysed advertisements, exploring meaning and visual techniques. This led into students creating their own ads, either about issues that matter to them or to promote a business they have set up to earn MB.

On Thursday, I sent home camp forms. If you haven’t yet returned these, please do so as soon as possible, as camp is coming up in Week 7.
