Meg’s Class Term 1 Week 2

Hi everyone,

Welcome to the first newsletter of the 2026 school year!

The past week (and a bit) has been full of fun as we’ve settled back into school and spent time getting to know one another.

This week, we began our whole-school topic, What Matters. We’ve had lots of thoughtful discussions about what matters to the children individually and as a class. These conversations have also led to some updates to our class agreements, which the children have enjoyed discussing at length. This year, we’re also changing things up with our language selections, and this has many of the children feeling very excited.

In maths, the class explored timetables by redesigning our schedule based on the time needed for different subjects. This challenge gave me valuable insight into when students feel they learn best, which will help me refine our class timetable.

We took trips to the library and enjoyed helping to run a sports lesson with the Axolotls (Joanna’s class). Together, we played games like Mr Crocodile and even built them a massive obstacle course!

At last week’s School Meeting, our class raised a topic they felt strongly about, whether chewing gum could be allowed during inside time. After returning to class to discuss expectations and possible implementation, the children prepared and presented their ideas clearly and confidently at this week’s School Meeting. Regardless of the outcome, I was extremely proud of how they advocated for something that mattered to them. Well
done in particular to Stella, Alana, Poppy, Grace, and Liyan!

Next week, we will be going to Lane Cove Pool on Tuesday morning. Please remind your child to wear or pack their swimwear and to bring a towel and goggles. I would love to have a volunteer to assist, so please let me know if you are available to support us on Tuesday morning (9:30–11:00am).

Looking forward to a fantastic term (and year) ahead!

With love,
Meg
