Jess’s class Term 4 Week 1

It’s been a fantastic first week back, with the children showing that they are rested and ready to get started.

We have agreed on a concept for our play and most of the children have characters. There’s still a lot of script devising to do but I’m happy that we’ve made a start. The children initially voted to keep all the details about the concert, including the story and the characters, a surprise for the parents but there were a few children who were really insistent in wanting to share their character with their parents. After much passionate discussion a new vote was taken and it was agreed that those children who wanted could tell their parents their character but not other people’s characters and not any details about the story.

In the beautiful weather on Thursday morning we explored volume and capacity, estimating capacity then filling containers with water to check our estimates. For English we used time connectives to write instructions for how to catch a Moddleplop. The children were very imaginative, and sometimes sneaky in devising traps and deceptions for this exercise.

Our highlight though was a lesson by Emma’s dad, Terry. He spoke to the children about our microscopic cellular bodies, bacteria and viruses and how the immune system functions to keep us healthy. The children were super engaged and loved using slime (mucus) to mop up glitter (viruses and bacteria). A messy and very fun lesson. Thank you Terry for sharing your expertise with the children.

Happy weekend!
