Jess & Susan’s Class Week 8 Term 3
Dear Parents,
After navigating our way through mapping and coordinates in our position topic, we have now moved on to angles. On Thursday, the children made their own angle finders and learnt about acute, obtuse, right and reflex angles.
With PIP presentations in Week 10 drawing near, many students are now up to the editing stage, adding visuals and experimenting with slide transitions. Pepper, who took the class on Thursday and Friday, reported that the children worked well in their PIP session and she was impressed by the variety and creativity of their topics.
We continue to enjoy our Rock and Water sessions each week. This time, the children practised keeping their “rock castle” strong and centred while partners tried to make them laugh with silly actions, noises and calling them fruit names. We also introduced a new game that involved balance and measured resistance — pulling gently against a partner while staying steady enough to keep balance if the grip was suddenly released. To finish, the children took on the challenge of trying to pull their partner across a line.
Apologies that part of last week’s newsletter didn’t upload in time. Here is a little about the events that were missed. We had a wonderful visit to Kinma, where the children took part in a Musica Viva session before enjoying free play in the beautiful playground and meeting new friends. They explored new beats through the theme of creativity and imagination, and thanks to Aidan’s suggestion, one of the highlights was a song about a bushland ice cream shop offering all sorts of flavours for the animals!
Our sports sessions have been full of variety. In Week 6, we focused on cricket at Pottery Green. Using plenty of tennis balls, everyone practised their bowling against the fence before pairing up to work on batting skills, finishing with a fun game of rounders. Last week, we joined in Jump Rope for Heart, organised by Wendy’s group. This week, we returned to Pottery Green for soccer with Wendy’s class. The children self seeded into three groups, rotated through activities, and came together for a lively game to finish. As we near the end of term, we are looking forward to just two more sports sessions — ultimate frisbee and basketball. It’s quite amazing that the weather only dampened our efforts once this term!
Hopefully the worst of the illness is behind us now, and we can all enjoy the last weeks of term together.
Have a great weekend!
Jess and Susan
