Jess’ class Week 5 Term 3

Hello everyone,

All reports are that the book week parade was super fun on Friday. I can’t wait to see all the photos!

This week in maths our focus has been expanding our repertoire of strategies to add numbers together  We explored the split strategy which requires children to have a very solid understanding of place value so they can split larger numbers into their hundreds, tens and ones before adding them together. it was wonderful to see so many of the children catching on. We have also begun exploring 3d shape and learning the terminology related to this including edge, surface, face and vertex. some of these definitions are harder to define than first assumed, particularly when related to curves.

There‘s been a lot of focus on free writing this week with many children choosing this activity during their choice times. We talked about the importance of listening to the voice in our head when we write as this is where letter formation, sentence structure and text ideas are formed.

And in our work on bodies this week, we learnt about…brains!!

I hope everyone has an awesome weekend and enjoys the beautiful weather.
Jess
