Jess’ Class Term 3 Week 2

Hello everyone,

It’s great to be back in Aus and to have had a day with the kids already. Everyone seems happy and settled so a huge THANK YOU to Susan for covering for me with such care whilst I was away. The conference in Taiwan was a wonderful experience and my head is spinning with ideas. I heard many very inspirational talks and had many interesting conversations. A great opportunity to compare notes and see how Australian democratic education sits within the international community.

At school, this week Susan has continued with practicing using adjectives to make nouns more interesting. We’ve done some work with doubling numbers which lays the foundation for more complex mental strategies like doubling plus or minus 1.

In our unit on Brilliant Bodies we looked at the heart and listened and measured our own heart beat. We then used a siphon pump to demonstrate the way the heart pumps blood through the veins and arteries.

We learnt about the Blue Whale and measured out 30 meters in the playground so we could actually see how big the creature is. It’s big!! And a few of the children also chalked out the size of a small car to represent the size of a Blue Whale’s heart!
