Jess’ class – Term 2 – Week 7

A huge thank you to Susan for covering for me this week as I’ve been in bed, sick. It’s very frustrating to be put out of the fun but it’s very reassuring to know everyone is in good hands.

This week was a very short week for formal lessons because of the public holiday on Monday and Summerhill day on Wednesday. Reports are that everyone engaged well with their choices for Summerhill day and that the weather made for some lovely play.

The children are needing a little bit of extra support with their social interactions at the moment and so Susan and I thought it was a time to get into some more formal lessons related to conflict resolution. After exploring emotions more generally last week, this week the children explored the ‘angry iceberg’ and the real emotions that can be underneath an anger outburst.

In maths the class began looking at 2D shape and have refreshed terms such as ‘sides‘ and ‘vertex’ and have looked at the features of common shapes. Being a short week, in English our priority has been on our phonics program with a focus on the vowel sound e,ea, ee, ey and y.

The younger children continued learning about the octopus and had fun making a labelled diagram noting down features of the octopus using scientific terms. In our group lesson with Amelia’s class the children learnt about different sweet treats from around the world and then created their own using plasticine. This is good timing with our upcoming excursion to the city where we will be visiting a lolly shop and watching lolly artists create beautiful rock candy.

In relation to this excursion, I’ll be sending out an email detailing our itinerary and things you need to send with your child.

Happy weekend

Jess
