Jess’ Class News Week 4 Term 3

Dear Parents,
It was science week this week and between our usual school business, we have also had some fun engaging in hands on experiments and scientific thinking. We made lungs out of balloons and straws, watched celery ‘suck up’ coloured water (well…we’re still watching this one) and we had fun mixing milk, food-colouring and detergent to create beautiful swirling patterns (there’s a reaction between the protein in the milk and the dish soap). We’ve been drawing a lot of labelled diagrams and discussing how these differ from a regular picture and the children have learnt to make predictions and record their observations.

On Friday, Aidan and Zac parents ran a number of other exciting experiments that the children could choose to participate in and they finished the whole thing off with a fabulous and literal BANG! Thank you Anthony and Shannon.

The children have continued developing their understanding of addition and subtraction strategies related to doubling and the children have also been working on combining area and arrays to understand multiplication. In English we have started looking at prepositions and talking about using vocabulary that is precise when we describe ‘where’ something is or in which direction it is moving.

Lastly, we explored a beautiful website during our lesson about oceans on Thursday. Many of the children wanted more time to explore it and ask if I could send the link home to their parents. So here it is, if you are interested https://neal.fun/deep-sea/

Happy weekend everyone!
