Jess and Susan’s group Week 1 Term 3

From Jess

Dear parents,

It’s been a super start to term 3 with the children getting straight back into the swing of things. With Chris away at the APDEC conference in Indonesia, Sarah D started the children back with a beautiful craft session using oil based inks. We did some fast list writing as a way to generate ideas for our future story writing and the children explored the jump strategy for addition and subtraction.

The planetarium was a fabulous way to finish the week and although we are yet to reflect on the experience in class, the initial comments I heard were very positive. Sitting inside the dark cave, and looking at the constellations and hearing the Aboriginal story of Ngalindi the Moon man was a little bit spooky! He is initially fat and lazy and eats too much but he is punished by his wives, who chop off parts of him, creating the waning moon, before he escapes, dies and is reborn to begin the cycle again.

Thank you to everyone who has signed up for meetings over the next couple of weeks, Susan and I are very much looking forward to speaking with you all.

From Susan

Dear Parents,

It was wonderful to see all the children on Thursday and hear about their holidays.

We began the term by completing self-evaluations for last term’s PIPs and getting started on planning our new projects for Term 3. Some children have chosen to work in pairs, while others are working independently. By the end of the year, all children will have completed at least one independent PIP. For many of the younger children, their Poisonous Plants PIP in Term 1 was their first experience presenting independently.

This term, instead of ERICS, we will be focusing on developing reading pace and fluency. After a few sessions, children who demonstrate strength in these areas will move on to comprehension tasks.

In sport, we’ll be developing a variety of ball skills throughout the term.

Wishing you all a fabulous weekend.

Warm regards,
Susan
