Jess and Susan’s Class Week 9 Term 3

Dear Parents,

With so many children away for much of the week, we  decided not to move forward with new content. Instead, we focused on creative writing activities and reinforced our fluency skills in maths, particularly relating to doubling and extending that knowledge by doubling then adding or subtracting 1 or 2.

We read a fun twist on the classic “The Three Little Pigs,” titled The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig. The students then had the opportunity to get creative by imagining an alternate ending to the story. During this activity, we discussed the various reasons for writing and the different audiences we write for. We also explored when and why we might choose to publish our work and what that might look like. In a classroom setting, the publication of our work refers to the final (public) edit, which could take the form of a letter or email, a piece displayed on the classroom wall, a post on a website, an entry into a competition, or a newsletter entry.

The key takeaway was the distinction between brainstorming ideas, writing a draft, and preparing our work for publication.

This week in sport, the children enjoyed playing ultimate frisbee. They learnt how to throw forehands and backhands, as well as how to make crocodile and crab catches, before putting their skills into practice in a game. There were some impressive throws, amazing catches, and excellent teamwork on display, with players leading into space after a turnover and some defensive marking.

In Maths on Thursday, we took our angle makers from last week outside to explore the playground. The children worked on identifying and labelling different angles they found, classifying them as acute, obtuse, straight, or reflex.

A reminder that an email has been sent out about the PIP presentations next Thursday, beginning at 1:40pm. We look forward to seeing you there if you’re able to join us.

I hope everyone is feeling comfortable and ready for horse riding on the weekend – I can’t wait! Please make sure to be at school by 8:35am.

On Tuesday, I will be away for my daughter’s high school graduation and Susan will be taking the class for the full day – thanks Susan!

Happy weekend
