Jess and Susan’s Class: Term 2 Week 7
Dear parents,
This week we’ve been looking at writing from different perspectives and exploring how this can sound in different ‘voices’. We watched a beautiful short film called The Present (2014) several times and rewrote it from the third person and then from the first person.
It was challenging for some children to go beyond a simple recount and to add character perspective, including feelings and motivations, particularly when writing in the first person. We’ll keep practicing this through our integrated unit ‘Sails, Ships and New Shores’ when we will imagine ourselves as various historical characters.
The children enjoyed listening to a podcast about Matthew Flinders this week and it was wonderful to see in their reflective drawings which were a demonstration of all the information they had retained.
In maths we’ve continued to explore multiplication and division and looked at number patterns on a hundreds chart. I’m very keen to keep our mathematical thinking concrete and to support children to ‘see’ the relationship between numbers rather than just memorise processes.
Although I was away on Friday (thank you Pepper for covering the class), it looks like it was a super fun day full of cubby building, dress-ups and strategic game playing.
Warm wishes
Jess and Susan
