Jess and Susan’s Class: Term 2 Week 1
Dear parents,
It’s been a fantastic start to the term with the children clearly enjoying reconnecting with one another. Despite the short week, we’ve still managed to cover quite a bit of material. Times tables strategies with a focus on multiples of six has been a topic with the children learning strategies such as; times five then add one more group of six, or time three then double it. Working on flexible thinking remains a focus.
We also had a short session to introduce our term topic called “Sails, Ships and New Shores” where we talked about ancient sea adventures, ocean myths and legends, the age of exploration (including British colonisation), early settlement in Sydney Cove and indigenous perspectives. The unit is very broad, so it will be interesting to see where we end up!
On Tuesday, we had a great Rock and Water session where we practised centering ourselves and giving clear, assertive messages. For the remainder of the term, sport sessions will focus on skill development, so please ensure children bring hats, water bottles, and appropriate footwear each Tuesday. Below is a weekly overview, weather permitting.
- 21 April- Rock & Water
- 28 April- Soccer
- 5 May- Pickleball
- 12 May- Basketball
- 19 May- Ultimate Frisbee
- 26 May- Traditional Indigenous Games (TIG)

- 16 June- Tennis
- 23 June- Tennis

On Thursday, we began our PIPs, spent time on handwriting, and finished the day with measurement activities using rulers and trundle wheels.
We’ve had a little bit of a shift around with the classroom furniture to allow for new desk arrangements. We’ve agreed we’ll trial the new set-up for a week or so before we gather feedback in class meeting, and decide if we want it to stay for good.
Warm wishes,
Jess and Susan
