Jess and Susan’s Class: Term 1 Week 6

Dear Parents,

This week we’ve been exploring the small things we can do in a community that can make a big difference. We talked about the ripples created when a small stone is dropped into water and how this helps us visualise the way a small act of kindness, service, compassion, respect or love can spread outwards and impact people around us in ways we may never even see.

In Mathematics, we have continued exploring additive and multiplicative thinking. The class has been revisiting the split strategy and practising ways to bridge the decade and the century when solving problems. It has been wonderful to see the children becoming quicker at recognising patterns in numbers. We have also been talking a lot about flexible thinking in mathematics and the idea that being “good at maths” is not just about finding the correct answer quickly, but about developing and using a range of strategies to solve problems. Flexible thinking is the goal!
