For the Whole School: Term 4 Week 3
Around Currambena
Another busy one around school! Currambena Council met on Monday, camp discussions began in Meg’s group and we finished the week off with some fabulous Halloween costumes and a parade that the children voted to have after the School Meeting on Friday. Many of the school committees have been meeting to discuss the progression of our new constitution, the front fence, marketing goals for 2027, the transfer of TBU and developing our Reconciliation Action Plan too. If there are any aspects of the school that you feel you would like to assist with, come and talk to a staff member to see how you can volunteer some time in one of our committees. There is always lots to do and all input is greatly appreciated.
Another Clothes Swap
Carolina is organising another clothes swap in Spanish groups and we would love to make a whole school afternoon clothes swap into a regular event in our Currambena Annual Calendar, hopefully one when the weather turns cold (March/April) and one when it turns warm again (September/October). In order to get this off and running, we would love some parent helpers who can give a little bit of time organising and setting this up on the day.
If you could help with the first one planned on Wednesday 11th November (2.30-3.30pm), please come and chat with Olivia in the office.
School Concert Preparation Continuing!
The excitement is building as preparations for our School Concert on Friday 20th November at Norths are now underway!
If you would like to help with costume or prop making, please check in with your child’s teacher or with Crafty Chris. Crafty will be bringing in the experts closer to the day but there are always opportunities for more hands, and we would love your involvement!
And don’t forget to purchase your concert tickets ahead of time using the QR code on concert posters around the school. An event not to be missed in the Curambena calendar!

Conflict Resolution Course – Saturday 14th November
Another important reminder to please sign up for our Conflict Resolution Course on Saturday 14th November!
Conflict resolution is at the heart of so much of what we do at Currambena. It is not simply about helping children sort out disagreements, but about developing lifelong skills for communication, empathy, independence, relationships and problem-solving.
The course explores 12 important conflict resolution skills, including:
1.Win-Win Approach – finding solutions where everyone’s needs are considered.
2. Creative Response – seeing problems as opportunities for learning and growth.
3. Empathy – listening and understanding another person’s perspective.
4. Appropriate Assertiveness – expressing our needs respectfully and addressing the problem rather than the person.
5. Co-operative Power – working with others rather than having power over them.
6.Managing Emotions – recognising and expressing feelings constructively.
7.Willingness to Resolve – recognising what might be getting in the way of finding a solution.
8.Mapping the Conflict – understanding the different needs and concerns involved.
9. Development of Options – exploring creative solutions together.
10. Introduction to Negotiation – finding ways to reach agreements.
11. Introduction to Mediation – supporting others to work through disagreements.
12. Broadening Perspectives – looking beyond our own point of view.
These are skills we use every day at Currambena, and they are just as valuable in our own lives as adults, whether at home, at work or in our relationships.
A number of staff will be attending, and I really encourage families to join us. For new families, and particularly preschool families considering continuing into primary school, this is a fantastic opportunity to understand one of the foundations of our school philosophy.
Hope to see you there. To register, please use the QR code on Conflict Resolution posters around the school.
