For the Whole School: Term 3 Week 9

This week at Currambena

Special events of the past school week included Spanish cooking with Carolina on Wednesday and a Thursday Summerhill Day with a sausage sizzle fund raiser for schools in Nepal affected by the glacier collapse and subsequent flooding. Summerhill Day activities ranged from colouring and other art to bushcare cleanup with quite a few activities being run by children including cooking healthy crepes, origami and outside games. As well as creating opportunities for leadership, there is always wonderful cross-age play and engagement on Summerhill Day, a much-loved Currambena tradition!

Many thanks again to everyone who contributed to the two Currambena events last weekend: our marketing stall at The Canopy was ably assisted by a wonderful dedicated group of parents and teachers. Thank you to you all. And Maintenance Day on Sunday left the school looking fantastic. Thanks to Michael and the team of parents who made that happen. A special treat to find the drawers in the staff room so tidy!!

Huge thanks also to Carolina (Frida’s mum) and everyone who contributed to the success of the Cultural Social on Friday night. It was such a fun event, relaxed and happy with so many opportunities to learn about other cultures! Dance, games, food and music… and congratulations to the guitarists who performed so beautifully!

Advance notice for next term: On Friday, October 16th at 12:30pm there will be an assessment workshop for girls interested in joining the Australian Girls’ Choir. Please ask your child to bring home a flyer about this from their classroom or register their interest on the website https://ausgirlschoir.com.au/schoolworkshop/

Reminders:

  • Please ensure your child/ren are well practised in crossing roads safely. Make sure you teach them to STOP, LOOK, LISTEN, THINK before they cross because we do not have a crossing supervisor at the moment.
  • Last day of term is Friday 25th September. Happy holidays everyone!
  • Currambena Community Camping: Thursday, 8 October to Sunday, 11 October 2026 (see details below)
  • ADEC conference next weekend – the annual conference of the Australasian Democratic Education Community is being held at Kinma School from Friday 25th to Sunday 27th September. A chance to meet like-minded parents and teachers… and children are welcome. Some of our teachers and school council members are attending. Kinma is in Terrey Hills and has a similar philosophy to Currambena. Conference link here: https://kinma.nsw.edu.au/adec-conference-2026/ and ADEC website is here https://www.adec.edu.au/
  • Please consider volunteering to help run our canteen one Monday next term. It would be great to have canteen available for our children every week. Email Karmen to offer your time at canteen@currambena.org

Where is lost property stored? In case you are wondering, the clothes rack and baskets are located outside the front of
Joanna’s classroom.

CURRAMBENA CAMPING ADVENTURE

Following the great response to our previous camping trip, many people have asked if we could organise another one for the upcoming school holidays.

Due to limited site availability during the school holidays, I have pre-booked 10 powered sites at Del Rio Riverside Resort at Wiseman’s Ferry from Thursday, 8 October to Sunday, 11 October 2026 (3 nights).

The cost is $285 per site, which covers 2 adults and 2 children.

The sites are being held for us until 14 September 2026, so if you would like to join, please secure your family’s site as soon as possible.

To secure your family’s site:
1. Call Del Rio Riverside Resort on (02) 4566 4330.
2. Quote Booking Group #134497 – Currambena School 2026.
3. Confirm your site and make payment directly with the resort.
4. Once you have booked, please let Farzad know on 0449 008 553 so I can keep track of the bookings.

👉 If you have a caravan/camper, please mention this when making your booking so the resort can allocate a suitable powered site.

⚠️ Important: The 10 sites are only being held until 14 September 2026. After this date, any unbooked sites may be released by the resort and availability cannot be guaranteed.

Hopefully we can organise another great camping weekend together! 🏕️

Thanks,
Farzad
