This week at Currambena
It has been another wonderfully busy week at Currambena, with lots of community energy helping to make things happen!
A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Currambena marketing stall on Saturday, whether you volunteered your time, helped with activities, chatted with visitors or simply stopped by to say hello. These events are a valuable opportunity to share Currambena
with the Lane Cove community, and we appreciate all of the generosity and enthusiasm of our families that showed up.
Thank you also to everyone who contributed to Maintenance Day. The time, skills and energy our community puts into caring for our beautiful school grounds and spaces make an enormous difference.
We are excited to see that lots of people have already signed up to help with activities at our Multicultural Community Social this Friday, 18 September, 6pm til 8pm. It is shaping up to be a fantastic evening and a lovely way to finish the term together. We’re looking forward to seeing many of you there! The silent auction of Art Week group creations will happen at the social… and there will be a performance by some of our guitar players and the chance for a sing-a-long! And now for a very special acknowledgement of our wonderful Preschool team, for all the care and energy that went into organising the recent Father’s Day Breakfast. Amongst everything else that fills the Preschool days, it was such a warm and welcoming morning for
our children and families. A heartfelt thank you to Katrina and the whole Preschool team for the thought and care that went into making it such a lovely opportunity for our families to come together and connect.
On Friday, it was great to hear a very thoughtful and sensitive discussion at School Meeting about dodge ball games and ways to make them fairer for younger children. Oli and Benji decided they would go and speak with Joanna’s group about their ideas and this happened
straight after Sustaining Time that morning.
Also on Friday, thanks to Emilia, some of the new library books donated by generous families in Book Week were processed. They were then given to those children whose families donated them to be the first borrowers! There were some wide smiles when the new books were put into their hands. Many thanks again to those who donated books. Please remember to venture up to the school library with your children. Borrowing is an honesty system… choose some books, read and enjoy, then return for the next person.
Please consider joining the Conflict Resolution one-day course on 14th November. It’s a fabulous opportunity to learn new communication skills, connect with others in our Currambena community and is subsidised for Currambena parents by our School Council. Course content was developed by the Conflict Resolution Network, Australia and is based on thorough research and international practice. Email wendyp@currambena.nsw.edu.au
Sausage Sizzle – Thursday
A reminder that we will be holding our fundraising sausage sizzle this Thursday 17th at lunchtime, raising funds to support CLCR’s work in response to the flooding emergency in Nepal. It’s also a great excuse to skip packing lunch that day! Vegan sausages will be available too. We hope lots of children will get involved and help us support this important cause.
Thank you, as always, to everyone who contributes their time, energy and enthusiasm to our community. There is certainly a lot happening at Currambena, and it is lovely to see so many people getting involved.
Pedestrian Crossing
A quick reminder that there is currently no crossing supervisor at the pedestrian crossing outside Currambena. We ask all families to please take extra care when arriving at and leaving school and to remind children about how to cross the road safely.
Please talk with your children about some simple strategies, including:
- Stop, Look, Listen and Think before crossing.
- Stop fully at the kerb and look both ways, checking again before stepping onto the road.
- Never assume a car will stop just because you are waiting at a pedestrian crossing.
- Make eye contact with drivers where possible and wait until vehicles have come to a complete stop before crossing.
- Avoid running, playing or using phones/devices while crossing.
- Younger children should cross with an adult whenever possible.
- Where children are travelling independently, encourage them to cross with other Currambena families or children where possible and to take their time rather than rushing.
- Be particularly careful around parked cars, driveways and vehicles reversing, where visibility can be limited.
Canteen
Please consider volunteering to help run canteen one Monday. It would be great to have canteen available for our children every week. Email Karmen to offer your time at canteen@currambena.org

TBU Vacation Care and WOW Project Holiday Camp
We have confirmed that TBU will not be operating Vacation Care during the upcoming school holidays. They will still provide coordination day care on Monday 12th October, as usual.
We know this may have an impact on some families who would usually rely on Vacation Care, so we wanted to give everyone as much notice as possible and also share the other opportunities being explored for the holidays.
As many of you know, Valentina and the WOW Project are currently running Currambena’s playgroup every Wednesday and it has swiftly become a highlight in our littlest community members’ week.
WOW Project is now exploring the possibility of running a holiday camp/program at Currambena in the second week of the upcoming school holidays. This would operate in a similar way to the external extracurricular activities offered at Currambena during term time, such as Drama and Comic Club.
Valentina is currently working out what the program could look like and needs to gauge interest and likely numbers before confirming whether it can go ahead. If your family might be interested, please complete the WOW Project survey (see emailed copy of newsletter for the link to the survey or contact the office).
Completing the survey does not necessarily commit you to attending – at this stage it is about helping WOW Project understand demand and plan a program that works for families. More information about dates, activities, costs and bookings will follow from WOW Project if
there is enough interest for the camp to proceed.
CURRAMBENA CAMPING ADVENTURE
Following the great response to our previous camping trip, many people have asked if we could organise another one for the upcoming school holidays.
Due to limited site availability during the school holidays, I have pre-booked 10 powered sites at Del Rio Riverside Resort at Wiseman’s Ferry from Thursday, 8 October to Sunday, 11 October 2026 (3 nights).
The cost is $285 per site, which covers 2 adults and 2 children.
The sites are being held for us until 14 September 2026, so if you would like to join, please secure your family’s site as soon as possible.
To secure your family’s site:
1. Call Del Rio Riverside Resort on (02) 4566 4330.
2. Quote Booking Group #134497 – Currambena School 2026.
3. Confirm your site and make payment directly with the resort.
4. Once you have booked, please let Farzad know on 0449 008 553 so I can keep track of the bookings.
👉 If you have a caravan/camper, please mention this when making your booking so the,resort can allocate a suitable powered site.
⚠️ Important: The 10 sites are only being held until 14 September 2026. After this date, any unbooked sites may be released by the resort and availability cannot be guaranteed.
Hopefully we can organise another great camping weekend together! 🏕️
