This week at Currambena

A highlight this week was Meg’s group running a super successful Jump Rope for Heart event on Tuesday afternoon. The whole school joined in skipping, learning new moves and honing their skills and fitness. Congratulations to all the skippers, and to Grace and the other organisers who have raised over $2500 for the Heart Foundation. In other fundraising, $140 was raised for the Wear it Purple Foundation again by Grace and her helpers. Jess’s group, with Lucia and Frida leading the way, raised $603.30 for aid work in Colombia. Brilliant demonstrations of leadership, organisational skills and social conscience.

Sadly, our planned Philosophy Night had to be cancelled. We have a great plan for an evening event for parents… and it will be a very worthwhile evening when it does happen. No definite date yet because so much is already planned!

Do consider joining the Conflict Resolution course on 14th November for a day of active learning, connection and reflection with other members of our school community. All you pay is $60 to cover course materials, lunch and refreshments … and you will go home with a huge range of new ideas for managing communication and using conflict as an opportunity to deepen respect and understanding with both the adults around you and your children.

Information Morning this week was attended by a number of families interested in enrolling in primary. We were very proud of the children who spoke to the prospective parents, Ollie, Ettie and Kuru, and also the children and took the visitors on tours around the school. The children’s confidence at these events is wonderful to see.

Needing help with the Term 3 School Social

We are welcoming volunteers for our End of Term Social (Friday, 18 Sept), a special Cultural Event where we will celebrate Currambena’s community, and the rich diversity of cultures and languages that make our school so special.

Canteen

Please consider volunteering to help run canteen one Monday. It would be great to have canteen available for our children every week. Email Karmen to offer your time at canteen@currambena.org

TBU Vacation Care and WOW Project Holiday Camp

We have confirmed that TBU will not be operating Vacation Care during the upcoming school holidays. They will still provide coordination day care on Monday 12th October, as usual.

We know this may have an impact on some families who would usually rely on Vacation Care, so we wanted to give everyone as much notice as possible and also share the other opportunities being explored for the holidays.

As many of you know, Valentina and the WOW Project are currently running Currambena’s playgroup every Wednesday and it has swiftly become a highlight in our littlest community members’ week. WOW Project is now exploring the possibility of running a holiday camp/program at Currambena in the second week of the upcoming school holidays. This would operate in a similar way to the external extracurricular activities offered at Currambena during term time, such as Drama and Comic Club.

Valentina is currently working out what the program could look like and needs to gauge interest and likely numbers before confirming whether it can go ahead. If your family might be interested, please complete the WOW Project survey. Completing the survey does not necessarily commit you to attending – at this stage it is about helping WOW Project understand demand and plan a program that works for families. More information about dates, activities, costs and bookings will follow from WOW Project if there is enough interest for the camp to proceed.
