What’s Happening at Currambena
It has been a wonderfully busy few weeks at Currambena, with plenty of creativity, learning and community connection happening across the school.
A huge Art Week saw Currambena Comic Con come to life, culminating in our fantastic exhibition in Newtown. This rolled straight into Book Week, with costumes, stories and our much-loved Book Character Parade.
We have also celebrated Science Week, enjoyed a fabulous whole-school Latin rhythm and Zumba session, and marked Wear It Purple Day on Friday with plenty of purple around the school, celebrating and supporting LGBTQIA+ young people and reminding everyone that they have the right to feel proud of who they are and safe to be themselves.
Congratulations to Grace and all of Meg’s group for their successful fund raising stall. Also congratulations to Frida and all of Jess and Susan’s group for their very successful fundraising Bake Sale on Wednesday, raising money for earthquake victims in Colombia. Donations of non-perishable food, clothing etc can be left in the box near the front door of the main building.
And there is still lots ahead. Our Currambena Philosophy Evening is this Tuesday, where we will come together to explore this year’s theme, “Why Currambena?”.
School photos are also happening over the coming week and Buy a Book for the school library continues. The books are in the office and payment can be made into the school account for these.
We are also heading out into the wider community as part of the Lane Cove Festival, with Currambena stalls on Friday 4 and Saturday 12 September. We would love some parent energy to help us run the stalls, chat with local families and share a little of what makes Currambena such a special place. If you can spare some time to help out, please let Olivia know.
And save the date for our Multicultural Community Social on Friday 18 September!
We would love some community members to help organise the evening and bring ideas, energy, food and fun to the celebration. Again, please get in touch with Olivia or Carolina (Frida’s mum) if you would like to be involved.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed, volunteered, joined in and helped make all of these experiences possible. It is a very full calendar, but a lovely reminder of just how much learning, creativity and community can be packed into a few weeks at Currambena!

School Photos
We are hoping to have school photos taken this coming week (fingers crossed for better weather than last week). Watch out for more information from your child’s teacher on dates and times.
The talented Jackie Chan will be taking our photos again this year. We don’t have a set schedule to share, as much of the timing will depend on the weather and the light, so photos may happen at different times across the week.
Canteen
Please consider volunteering to help run canteen one Monday. It would be great to have canteen available for our children every week. Email Karmen to offer your time at canteen@currambena.com
Needing help with the Term 3 School Social
We are welcoming volunteers for our End of Term Social (Friday, 18 Sept), a special Cultural Event where we will celebrate Currambena’s community, and the rich diversity of cultures and languages that make our school so special.

Philosophy Night, Tuesday 1 September
This evening event will be a great opportunity to connect with parents and teachers on the topic of “Why Currambena?” There will be time for discussion and questions, a brief introductory conflict resolution activity and supper at the end of the evening.
Conflict Resolution Course, Saturday 14 November
The course will be running for the day on Saturday 14 November. It’s an excellent program and a great opportunity to learn new communication skills and effective ways to resolve conflicts with both children and adults. Please email wendyp@currambena.nsw.edu.au to enrol.
