For the Whole School: Term 3 Week 5
What a wonderful week we’ve had!
It started with some hands-on science sessions to celebrate Science Week, and a visit from Anthony (Aidan’s dad), sharing some explosive experiments with elements for Jess and Susan’s group.
Then we moved on to Art Week: Comic Con and Animation. A huge thank you to our fabulous artists Neil, Cale, Siobhan, Ryan and Jackie for sharing their time, creativity and talents with the children and, as always, enormous gratitude to our own Crafty Chris for his ever-creative, grand and amazing work and ideas. The energy, imagination and sheer scale he brings to Art Week make it such a fantastic experience for our children and the whole Currambena community.
I hope everyone enjoyed the exhibitions in Newtown as much as I did. Thank you to everyone who came along and helped celebrate the children’s creations. If you couldn’t make it, don’t worry, we’ll keep you posted about how you can view the artworks in the coming weeks.
Book Week is upon us!
This week, we’re kicking things off with our Book Week Parade at 9am on Monday 24th August. I can’t wait to see which characters the children choose and all the imaginative costumes that are certain to arrive through the gate!
On Monday morning, before and after the book parade, we’ll also have our “Buy a Book” stall, this time specifically to help grow the Currambena Library. Families can choose a book from the stall to purchase and donate directly to our library for everyone to enjoy.
You or your child can sign a “Donated by …” label which will be pasted into the book. Once the book is stamped and labelled, your family will be offered the first borrowing!
Books from the Buy a Book Stall will not be available for purchase for personal use this time around but the new Book Club catalogue has also arrived, so have a browse and get your orders in! Orders from the previous issue are currently being processed and should soon be making their way to those who ordered.
A huge thank you to the library team who have been working upstairs to get our school library organised and looking beautiful. Pop up and have a look when you can and encourage your children to borrow. We have an honesty system for borrowing – borrow,
enjoy, care for and then return.
Latin Rhythm & Zumba!
We have another bit of fun planned for Wednesday 26th August, with a Latin Rhythm and Zumba sport session for the whole school, organised by Carolina, our Spanish teacher. There should be plenty of music, movement and energy as the children get the chance to experience some Latin rhythms together. Get those dancing shoes ready!
STEAM Playgroup! Spread the word!
Also on Wednesday, we have another STEAM Playgroup for the littlies, organised by Valentina at the WOW Project and our team of parent volunteers. Tell your friends, tell your neighbours, tell anyone you know with children aged 0–5! Come along for a morning of messy play, learning, experimenting and connection at Currambena. It’s a lovely opportunity for little ones and their grown-ups to play together and experience a little bit of our Currambena community.
School Photos
We are also due to have school photos taken this coming week, so please keep this in mind when sending your children off to school!
The talented Jackie Chan will be taking our photos again this year. We don’t have a set schedule to share, as much of the timing will depend on the weather and the light, so photos may happen at different times across the week.
Canteen
Please consider volunteering to help run canteen one Monday. It would be great to have canteen available for our children every week. Email Karmen to offer your time at kikapetrovic@gmail.com
Wear it Purple Day Friday, 28th August
On Friday, for Wear it Purple Day, some children from Meg’s group are organising a stall and a dance party. The stall will be at 11am and the dance party after lunch at 1:30 on the handball court. Please encourage the children to wear purple or red and blue clothing that day.
Planning the T3 School Social
We are welcoming volunteers for our End of Term Social on Friday, 18th September, a special Cultural Event where we will celebrate Currambena’s community, and the rich diversity of cultures and languages that make our school so special.

Thinking of our Colombian community
We are sending our thoughts and care to all members of our community who have family, friends and loved ones affected by the earthquake in Colombia. Please look out for a flyer from Isabel further on in this newsletter with information about how you can help if you would like to offer support.
Next Wednesday, at lunch time, some children from Jess/Susan’s group will be running a stall to raise money for earthquake victims in Colombia. So remember to send money with children that day. Donations of food to sell will also be welcome.
Philosophy Night, Tuesday 1st September
This evening event will be a great opportunity to connect with parents and teachers on the topic of “Why Currambena?” There will be time for discussion and questions, a brief introductory conflict resolution activity and supper at the end of the evening.
Conflict Resolution Course correct date! Saturday 14th November
Apologies for conflicting messaging about this in previous newsletters. The correct date for the one day course is Saturday 14th November. It’s an excellent program and a great opportunity to learn new communication skills and effective ways to resolve conflicts with both children and adults.
