For the Whole School: Term 2 Week 10

Term 2 School Social

The end of term school social will now be held on Friday 2nd July from 6pm. Fingers crossed for better weather! Bring your own cups and join us for some hot chocolate/mulled wine and a toasted marshmallow or two.

Please also bring a small plate of finger food (needing no utensils or crockery to serve) to share with the community. So that we don’t double up on too much sweet food, we are asking all classes to bring savoury except Jess and Susan’s group who are asked to bring dessert food instead of savoury please.

Remember to bring along a mug or cup for hot chocolate or mulled wine! Hope to see you there.

Lane Cove Children’s Voices for Reconciliation Congratulations!

Huge congratulations to all the children who participated in this event. It was a great success and our item has been praised by all who heard us. So much to be proud of, especially the mix of ages all working together for a great performance! The group made Currambena proud with some fabulous singing, guitar playing and the speeches by two of our elders. Thank you also to all the children and parents who came along to support them from the audience.

School Inspection NSW Educational Standards Authority

This week we hosted two inspectors from NESA who checked over our teachers’ documentation of their teaching programs, planning and implementation of NESA syllabuses in Maths and English. All our teachers have worked consistently to ensure paperwork is up to date and accurately represents the curriculum taught in each group. Thank you to the parents and children who helped with cleaning up the school on
Wednesday before this visit.

The two inspectors very much enjoyed their Currambena morning and found our documentation to be 100% compliant with NESA expectations. They were impressed by the strong balance we achieve between explicit teaching and hands-on activities for children and they praised the ways our teachers record student progress and plan for the needs of individuals. They were impressed to see so much capacity for flexibility built into planning and they praised our teachers’ reflections on their professional practice, especially while implementing three brand new NSW syllabuses! Huge congratulations to our primary teachers. NESA will let us know in due course when the next inspection will be.

End of Term Survey

You will all have received the End of Term 2 survey. Please make time to answer the questions and send your feedback.

Marketing Committee Volunteers

The marketing committee is looking for more volunteers to join our committee. Do you have specific marketing and/or social media skills? Great! Do you have no particular skills but feel passionate about our school and wish to help? Also absolutely great too! We need help with “feet on ground” actions and are always looking for a range of perspectives to help share our beautiful school to the wider community. Please speak to
Olivia or Marlesha.

Traffic Crossing Supervisor

We are delighted to have a relief supervisor who will be covering the school crossing for the following duration:

  • Monday, 29.06.26 to Friday, 03.07.26
  • Monday, 20.07.26 to Thursday, 17.08.26

His name is Alan Nguyen.

The Department of Transport is finding it increasingly difficult to cover these positions and would like to extend an invitation to anyone who might like to volunteer through the school crossing program. Please find out more via www.transport.nsw.gov.au

Currambena School Council Meetings

The next meeting will be on Monday 3rd August. The public meeting will start at 6.30pm and everyone is welcome, and encouraged to attend. Council is having an additional planning meeting on Monday 29th June specifically to set priorities for the year ahead.

Conflict Resolution Course: Saturday 8th August, 2026

Please email Wendy or Chris to reserve your place for this one day training. The course is invaluable as a parent in our community and is designed for our community members to complement the learning about communication and conflict resolution that all our children do in their classes. The course is presented by Wendy Pettit and Chris Price, both trained in Conflict Resolution and both with long histories as teachers, parents and
advocates for Currambena.

Mini Concert 1:30 Tuesday in Meg’s room

Quite a few children have expressed interest in performing in our mini concert next week. If you think your child might be keen but they haven’t already spoken to me, please email Wendy (wendyp@currambena.nsw.edu.au) so I can include them in the program. I need their name, the name of the piece they are playing and an approximate duration.

We will start at around 1:30 and the entertainment will probably go for about 45 minutes. Parents are welcome!

Maintenance update

A big thank you to all the families who attended the last maintenance day. We achieved a lot, landscaping, cleaning, organisation of storage and painting works. Even the blue umbrella got a fresh coat of paint!!

Also, thank you to those of you who have taken on regular tasks throughout this term. It has made a big difference to things like the school library and gardens. The regular tasks will be updated on the maintenance spreadsheet and we will look to also incorporate small projects that parents can take on next term. More to come on this.
