Another full week here at school!

There was great excitement about the clothes swap in Spanish on Wednesday! What a success! Many thanks to Carolina for organising this.

The week culminated in a truly Currambena School Meeting on Friday chaired by Stevie and Madu. After a lengthy discussion about toilet etiquette brought by Sarah’s group, Lucia and Ettie raised the subject of “Soup Day”. They wanted to know if we could have one again since it was suggested but didn’t actually happen last year. After some questions and a vote that affirmed that the majority wanted it, there was discussion about how to make sure it did happen this year. The chairpeople asked for a show of hands, who would like to help with this? About 20 children volunteered and Jess kindly offered to host a meeting for them in her room after lunch to start organising. Completely child led and democratically decided! Watch this space for details!

Also on Friday, in the afternoon, a group of about 25 children met upstairs to rehearse the song “Brown Skin Baby” by Bob Randall which Currambena is going to sing at the Lane Cove Children’s Voices for Reconciliation event on Thursday 28th May up at the Canopy. It is the 29th year of this event and Currambena has presented an item almost every one of those years. It’s great to have a mix of ages in the group performing this year and everyone sang beautifully in our first practice! Louie and Kitty will be making a speech as well so come along if you can.

All our teachers make time to record the important aspects of the week and remind you about upcoming events. Always worth reading! Remember that if you want to find out more details about your child specifically, speak to their teacher to arrange a time to chat. If you don’t come into school very often, send an email and arrange a meeting.

The 57th Annual General Meeting of Currambena Ltd

Currambena Ltd is a not-for-profit company set up in 1969 to run Currambena School, which it has been doing for 57 years! We are required by law to hold an Annual General Meeting which is coming up on 28th May. You will have received an email from Mikee with details, nomination and proxy forms. We are still looking for another volunteer to whip up a delicious batch of soup on the night. If you can help, please let Olivia know.

Parking

A gentle reminder to ensure that you do not hang over any driveways when parking near the school. There have recently been incidences where neighbours have been unable to safely enter and exit their own driveways. Even a few inches over increases the difficulty of being able to navigate cars effectively and safely. Thank you all for helping make this safe for everyone.

Volunteer possibilities (all count as maintenance hours):

  • Please remember there are numerous other opportunities to be involved!
  • Soup makers for AGM 28th May (we now have one but another volunteer would be fabulous)
  • School Social- 26th June
  • Canteen Roster (email canteen@currambena.org)
  • Maintenance Day on 31st May
  • If you need more information about helping out with any of these, please pop in and speak with Olivia Monday to Thursday or Wendy P on Wednesday or Friday.
