Faith’s Class: Term 3 Week 9
Happy Week 9!
We’ve had another busy week in the Chatterboxes as we head towards the end of term! In Maths, we wrapped up our learning for the term by exploring the equals sign. We used a balance scale analogy to help us understand that the equals sign doesn’t mean “the answer”, it means that both sides of an equation have the same value. We then extended our learning to the greater than and less than signs, using the crocodile analogy: the crocodile always wants to eat the bigger number! This was a big hit with the Chatterboxes and proved to be a very helpful way to remember which way the signs face.
We also had our final Literacy Stations for the term and wrapped up our persuasive writing. Each week, the Chatterboxes have written a short persuasive piece in response to a question or prompt. It has been wonderful to see how much more confident they have become with the structure of persuasive writing and how their ideas have developed to include increasingly detailed reasons to support their opinions.
In Currents of Care, we have begun drafting our information reports about a waterway of each child’s choice. We have a great range of waterways being explored, including saltwater rock pools, the Great Barrier Reef, reservoirs and some of our favourite local beaches! Students have also begun planning their trioramas, deciding which of the features of their chosen waterway that they would like to represent.
Thursday was Summerhill Day and it couldn’t have come at a better time! Everyone enjoyed having a day to step away from our usual routines and get involved in a range of activities, including craft, Capture the Flag, drumming and cooking. It was lovely to see the Chatterboxes enjoying themselves and spending time with children across the school.
On Friday, our class chaired school meeting. Justin and June did a wonderful job of chairing and kept the meeting running smoothly. Well done!
A few things coming up next week:
Monday: Our final visit to Lane Cove Library for the term.
Wednesday: Our excursion to Tambourine Bay! We will walk down to the bay and observe some of the water systems that support our local area. We will have lunch at the bay before heading back to school. Some parent volunteers will be driving groups of students back, so if you are free for an hour or so and would be happy to help, please let me know! We already have some fabulous volunteers, but we can never have too many!
Thursday: PIP and GIP presentations at 9:30am. We are very excited to share all the research our Elders and Juniors have been working on this term!
Have a wonderful weekend, and see you all next week for our final week of Term 3!
From,
Faith x
