Faith’s Class: Term 3 Week 8
Happy Week 8!
This week, The Chatterboxes took a deep dive into the Great Barrier Reef, learning about the incredible features that make it such a unique and special ecosystem. We also explored the impact humans have had on the reef, including the damage to coral systems and marine life. We used the Great Barrier Reef as a focus for developing our information report writing. After watching some mini documentaries, we each recorded interesting facts before working together to create a whole-class information report. This practice will set us up for our end-of-term project, where everyone will research and write an information report about a waterway of their choice.
In Maths, we consolidated our learning about addition, subtraction and number bonds with a game of SPLAT! We used our number facts, grouping knowledge and quick-thinking skills to work out how many shapes were hiding underneath the splat. The Chatterboxes quickly became very speedy with their number facts!
In our Developing Conflict Resolution unit, we explored the word “sorry”. We brainstormed what it means, when we use it and what makes an apology genuine and meaningful. We built on this later in the week by exploring the idea of positive and negative friendships and power. We looked at how power can be more than just superhero power, it can be bravery to stand up for our friends or making the right choice even if it’s hard. We then all wrote about a time we used our power to help a friend. We looked at examples of positive and negative friendships and created a class chart to help us identify the behaviours and qualities that can make friendships healthy or unhealthy.
Our PIPs and GIPs are complete! Next week, we will shift our focus to presentation skills, learning how to stand confidently, project our voices and engage our audience as we prepare for our big presentations in Week 10. I am incredibly proud of both groups and the way everyone has risen to the challenge. They have worked so hard, supported one another and shown such wonderful growth throughout the process.
